About this experience

University Parks — often called University Park Oxford — is a large public park and green space in the heart of Oxford, England, right next to the University of Oxford’s campus. It’s one of the city’s most popular outdoor areas for walking, sport, picnics, and nature.

It covers around 70 acres (about 30 ha) of landscaped parkland, bordered by Parks Road to the west and the River Cherwell to the northeast.

The land was originally farmland owned by Merton College and was purchased by the University of Oxford in the 1850s and laid out as parkland from 1864.

University Parks was designed for sport and recreation and today combines grassy open spaces, wide paths, and a rich collection of trees and plants.

Open daily from early morning until dusk (closed only on Christmas Eve). Free entry.

Well-connected by foot, bike, and public transport — there’s no on-site public parking, but bus stops and nearby parking make it easy to reach on foot from the city centre.

Accessible paths and wheelchair-friendly access points are available at some entrances.
