What It Is

Modern Art Oxford is a vibrant contemporary art space with an international reputation for presenting new and challenging work by both UK and international artists. It was founded in 1965 as the Museum of Modern Art Oxford and has been at its current home on Pembroke Street ever since.

What to See & Do

  • Temporary exhibitions: Galleries change exhibitions regularly, featuring contemporary visual art including painting, sculpture, installations, film and multimedia work.

  • Ground Floor Gallery: Free to enter and often features community-focused displays or up-and-coming artists.
  • Ticketed shows: Some upstairs exhibitions require a ticket (e.g., recent shows like Suzanne Treister: Prophetic Dreaming). Children under 12 often enter free, and concessions are available.

    The gallery is centrally located at 30 Pembroke Street, Oxford, OX1 1BP, a short walk from Oxford’s train station and major bus routes. Optional nearby parking is available at Westgate Shopping Centre, though a car-free visit is encouraged.
